Hike Description

About a 40-minute drive from the pick-up point, we arrive at the parking area, ready to begin our adventure. Before setting off, we conduct an equipment check, making any necessary adjustments, followed by a brief safety briefing covering trail details, expected conditions, and useful hiking tips.

Though not particularly long, this hike involves a steady climb over a relatively short distance. Some uphill sections are to be expected, but they are entirely manageable and well worth the effort. The trail offers rewarding views and a chance to experience the area's natural beauty up close.

Before reaching the highest point, we take a well-earned break at Vikstemmen, a scenic lake providing a peaceful spot to rest and take in the surroundings.

Starting in Vikevåg, the hike begins with a short walk through the residential area of Paradis on an asphalt road before transitioning onto a tractor road. As you leave the paved path behind, the peaceful surroundings unfold, guiding you toward a large gate that marks your entry into the natural terrain.

Here, you have two options: continue along the tractor road for a gentler route, turning the hike into a partial circular loop that adds 20–30 minutes, or take the more adventurous rugged trail leading directly to Vikstemmen. We typically favor the latter, embracing the raw beauty of the landscape.

At Vikestemmen, we pause for a well-deserved break at the designated resting area. While it’s not a large body of water, a short path circles the pond for those who wish to explore while others relax.

Historically, Vikestemmen served as a reservoir for two local mills in Vik, a village with deep historical roots. From here, we continue our journey toward Pilå (The Arrow). The final stretch to the summit takes us up a steep yet manageable grassy slope.

As we reach the top plateau, a breathtaking panorama unfolds—offering sweeping views of the city, the fjord stretching towards Kvitsøy and Boknafjorden, and much of Rennesøy and Ryfylke. From here, you can also spot Rennesøyhodnet (The Island Horn), another remarkable hike in the area.

Windy conditions are common in this open landscape, so be prepared for strong gusts at times. At the summit, a professional telescope offers a closer look at the breathtaking surroundings. You'll also find several Iron Age burial mounds, with a plaque providing historical insights.

For the descent, we have two options. The tractor road offers a gentler, well-maintained route, perfect for a more relaxed return. Alternatively, we can retrace our steps, allowing you to experience the landscape from a new perspective.
