If you're looking to avoid the busiest times, we highly recommend starting your hike after 16:00 on weekdays or before 09:00 on weekends.

Crowds are to be expected, particularly in summer, as this iconic hike attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. To make the most of your adventure to Pulpit Rock, come mentally prepared for occasional queues along the trail and at the summit. Choosing the right time to hike can greatly enhance your experience.

Trail Details: Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) Private Hike​

 

After a scenic 40-minute drive from Stavanger—traveling 292 meters beneath the fjord via the Ryfylke Tunnel—we arrive at the Pulpit Rock parking area. Before we begin the hike, we conduct an equipment check and ensure everyone is properly prepared. A short safety briefing follows, where we go over trail conditions, expected weather, and essential hiking tips for a safe and enjoyable experience.

The trail to Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) offers a varied and exciting mix of terrain: steep gravel sections, rocky boulders to scramble over, Sherpa-built stone staircases, wooden walkways crossing marshy areas, and winding forest paths.

After about two hours of steady hiking, we reach the stunning mountain plateau known as Pulpit Rock—measuring 25 x 25 meters and standing 604 meters above the world-famous Lysefjord. Here, we take time to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views and capture unforgettable photos of one of Norway’s most iconic natural landmarks.

We prepare a light meal and enjoy a warm drink while taking in the spectacular views from Pulpit Rock. The peaceful surroundings and the dramatic drop to the Lysefjord below create the perfect atmosphere to relax, recharge, and fully absorb the beauty of Norway’s natural landscape.

After soaking in the scenery and resting at the summit, we begin our return hike along the same trail. The descent offers a fresh perspective, with shifting light and new vantage points revealing parts of the landscape we may have missed on the way up.
