Short summary

Dalsnuten is one of the most popular hikes in Sandnes—and for good reason! Standing at 323 meters above sea level, it offers sweeping views of Sandnes, most of Stavanger, and the vast Jæren landscape.

Though rated as an easy (level 2) hike, a steep incline near the end adds a touch of challenge. Due to its popularity, you can expect to share the trail with fellow hikers.

Since the hike is relatively short, if time, we also offer the chance to try fjord fishing for cod, pollock, and mackerel—or visit the iconic "Swords in Rock" monument, a symbol of Norway’s Viking heritage.

Hike Description

After a scenic 40-minute drive from the pick-up point, we arrive at the parking area. Before setting off, we conduct an equipment check and make any necessary adjustments. A brief safety briefing follows, covering trail details, expected conditions, and essential hiking tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable adventure.

The hike to Dalsnuten follows a well-marked trail, with a gradual ascent until we reach the base of the peak, where the incline becomes more noticeable. Some sections can be wet and rocky, requiring careful footing. We complete the hike as a round trip, ascending on the eastern side and descending along the western side of Revholdstjørn.

The initial stretch takes us past Gramstadtjørna and towards Revholdstjørni along a well-maintained gravel road before transitioning into more rugged terrain. We follow a stone-paved trail through a small forest where shelters provide a convenient spot for food preparation in case of bad weather.

The route continues between two historic stone fences—once used for leading sheep and cattle to pasture. These carefully crafted walls are remnants of the former Revholen farm, which was inhabited until just after World War II. In the spring, the farm’s old orchard bursts into bloom, adding to the charm of the landscape.

We follow the east side of Revholstjørn, where the gentle start of the hike quickly transitions at Kvitemyra into a steady ascent toward Dalsnuten. From Revholstjørn to the summit, we climb 137 meters, giving most hikers a chance to warm up before reaching the peak. Standing at 323 meters above sea level, Dalsnuten rewards us with a breathtaking panoramic view of Sandnes, most of Stavanger, and the vast landscapes of Jæren.

On the return, we take the west side of Revholstjørn, passing the remnants of the Lundane croft before reconnecting with the road. For those wanting to extend the adventure, an optional detour via Øvre Eikenuten offers additional scenery.
