Hike Description

An approximately 60-minute drive from the pick-up point, Ramnstoknuten becomes a captivating landmark as we approach the starting point of our hike. Once at the hike's starting point, we conduct an equipment check, making any necessary adjustments. Following this, a brief safety briefing is provided, covering trail information, expected conditions, and useful hiking tips before embarking on today's exciting adventure!
The journey begins easily on a gravel road in beautiful surroundings alongside a lake. The road leads only to scattered cabins, making the area typically tranquil and idyllic. After about 1.8 km, the gravel road ends, and we venture into the terrain, following a trail along some beautiful lakes.
The terrain is occasionally damp, but no less charming, and we traverse the open and clear landscape until we descend into a forested slope. It is usually desirable to take small breaks to capture the surroundings in photos, which is completely understandable in this magical terrain!

In the forested slope, it can get warm in the summer, especially as we reach the "bottom" and start the ascent. Luckily, we cross a small stream where we can refill our water bottles before continuing in the hilly terrain. In the forested slope, we take a short detour if desired, to visit an old bear den from the time when bears roamed this area.

A few meters higher, followed by a descent, before tackling a few more meters upwards! But soon, we are almost at the top!
Now, Ramnstoknuten awaits – a well-crafted cairn marks the summit of this mountain that we admired from the car earlier. What a view! Towards Høgsfjorden in the northwest, and towards Frafjorden winding eastward between the towering mountains! Here, we take a break, enjoy something warm to eat and drink while savoring the view and patting ourselves on the back for reaching the top.

After a good break, the journey back follows the same route, but if time allows and our legs are up for it, we have the opportunity to take more detours to gain new perspectives and backgrounds on our hiking memories.

Additionally, note that this hike originates from the same starting point as our hike to Lauvnesknuten, situated slightly east on this plateau. If time and physical condition permit, there's an opportunity to combine both and conquer both peaks in one expedition.
PS! This is a long and challenging trip. On weekdays, we must maintain a steady pace to adhere to the schedule. We, therefore, recommend not booking this hike if you are unsure whether you comfortably fit within Level 3+. On the weekend day version of the hike, there is more time available, allowing for a more relaxed pace.
The Legend of Ramnstoknuten

In the ancient mountains of Norway rests Ramnstoknuten, a majestic peak that carries an old legend about ravens. The tale speaks of a time long ago when the ravens on Ramnstoknuten were known to be messengers between heaven and earth. It is said that the ravens on Ramnstoknuten were keepers of wisdom and secrets hidden among the mountains. People from the area would seek advice from these wise birds when facing challenges or seeking guidance.
On a dark winter evening, when the snow covered the mountains in a soft blanket, a lone traveler's prayer for help was heard by the ravens. The black birds circled down from the sky and landed on Ramnstoknuten. With a powerful beat of their wings, they soared upward, carrying with them the wishes and hopes of the wanderer.

Since then, Ramnstoknuten has been regarded as a place where souls can communicate with the ravens, and where the wisdom of the mountains is shared with those who seek it. The legend lives on, and people wandering the trails around Ramnstoknuten listen to the wind carrying whispers from the ravens as a reminder of the enchanting connection between the mountains and the wise birds.
