Hike Description

About a 40-minute drive from the pick-up point, having just traveled 292m below the fjord from Stavanger. we reach the parking area. Once at the hike's starting point, we conduct an equipment check, making any necessary adjustments. Following this, a brief safety briefing is provided, covering trail information, expected conditions, and useful hiking tips before embarking on today's exciting adventure!
The trail offers a mix of terrain, involving steep gravel hills, boulder climbing, rock stairs, wooden pathways over marshlands, and forest trails. After approximately 2.5 hours of hiking, we reach Pulpit Rock, a flat plateau measuring 25 x 25 meters, situated 604 meters above the legendary Lysefjorden. Here, panoramic views of the fjord await.
We prepare food, enjoy something warm to drink, and relish the view. After enjoying the scenery and taking a break, we either return the same way or opt for the "off-beaten hidden track" on the way back, depending on time and conditions.

If we choose the off-beaten hidden track, we follow a path to the top of the mountain, offering a view down to Pulpit Rock. Opting to go all the way to the top provides a 360-degree view of the entire area, extending beyond Stavanger.
An extra bonus of taking this route is the option to descend from the mountain on a less trodden path for the majority of the way down. On this trail there are usually very few people, as the trail is not marked or signposted. We rejoin the commercial trail at the sign shown in the picture below :)
Upon reaching the car, we reflect on the breathtaking experience and the sense of accomplishment that comes with conquering Pulpit Rock. The memories forged during this adventure are not just about the destination but the entire journey, from navigating diverse landscapes to basking in the tranquility of nature.
If you've ever dreamed of standing atop a natural marvel, gazing over a fjord with the wind in your hair, this hike is a gateway to that dream.
PS! This is a long and challenging trip. On weekdays, we must maintain a steady pace to adhere to the schedule. We, therefore, recommend not booking this hike if you are unsure whether you comfortably fit within Level 3. On the weekend day version of the hike, there is more time available, allowing for a more relaxed pace.
Weekday Hike

Embarking on a weekend day hike provides us with the luxury of abundant time, allowing us to relish every nuance of the journey. Although the trail replicates that of our weekday hike, the extended duration and prolonged breaks promise to elevate the overall experience even further :)
Our leisurely pace grants us the freedom to immerse ourselves in the enchanting surroundings, appreciating the smallest details along the way. We'll carve out ample moments for making a campfire, make some food, and the pursuit of additional activities like fishing and swimming, should the interest and opportunities present themselves. So, lace up your hiking boots, embrace the unhurried rhythm, and let's make the most of this weekend adventure!
